FGCID ALUMNI GENERAL ELECTIONS 2026

The Electoral Committee (EC) constituted by the current NExCO as laid out in the Constitution of the FGCID Alumni Association issues this Notice of elections as follows:

Duties and Requirements

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

A person shall be eligible to be elected as a member of the NEXCO if:

  • The candidate is a full member of the Association and is nominated for the particular office by two (2) full members of the Association;

  • The candidate’s Set has met all financial obligations due to the Association;

  • The candidate has met all financial obligations to the candidate’s Set and Chapter;

  • The candidate is an alumnus of the School of no less than ten (10) years’ standing;

  • The candidate is not a member of the candidate’s Set or Chapter EXCO;

  • The candidate has previously served in an executive leadership position in the candidate’s Set or Chapter, provided that for the office of President, Vice President, General Secretary or Assistant General Secretary, the candidate must have previously been a member of the NEC.

  • For the offices of Financial Secretary and Risk and Compliance Officer, the candidates shall be practising accountants (for Financial Secretary) and persons of cognate qualifications and experience like Internal Controllers and Risk Managers (for the Risk and Compliance Officer.
  • For the office of Legal Adviser, such candidates shall be legal practitioners of not less than five (5) years post-call experience.

National spread and gender representation shall, as much as practicable, be taken into consideration in filling the National Offices.

A national officer of the Association shall hold office for a term of two (2) years and may be re-elected to that office after the expiration of his/her initial term for a subsequent term of two (2) year. Such officer shall be qualified for re-election to that office or another after at least one intervening period of two (2) years.

Members of the Electoral Committee cannot vote or be voted for.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

To express interest in a position, complete the form and agree to undergo a vetting process. If successful, the Electoral Committee will publish the candidacy of the member for election.

DUTIES & REQUIREMENTS OF OFFICERS OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT COLLEGE IDOANI ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

THE PRESIDENT

The duties of the President shall include:

  • Presiding at the general meetings of the Association and the meetings of the National Executive Committee.
  • Directing the convening of the general meetings of the Association and meetings of the National Executive Council and the NEXCO in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution.
  • Co-ordinate the activities of the Association.
  • Providing direction and leadership to all committees of the Association and appoint the chairpersons and members of such committees in consultation with other members of the NEXCO.
  • Presenting at the Annual General Meeting of the Association a report highlighting the accomplishments, challenges, prospects and other relevant issues about the Association.
  • Acting as the principal spokesperson of the Association.
  • Ensuring with the assistance of other National Officers efficient use or prudent investment, acquisitions and disposal of assets as may be necessary from time to time.
  • Ensure that the objectives of the Association are being carried out.
  • Be one of the signatories to the bank account(s) of the Association.
  • Perform such further functions and duties as may be delegated by the National Executive Council.

PRE-REQUISITE: Nil

VICE-PRESIDENT

The Vice President shall:

  • Act in the absence of the President and perform other assigned duties by the President, NEXCO, NEC or the Association.
  • Be responsible for the social, cultural and entertainment activities of the Association.
  • Be a signatory to the accounts of the Association so as to be able to act in the absence or unavailability of the President.

PRE-REQUISITE: Nil

GENERAL SECRETARY

The General Secretary shall, under the overall direction of the President, be in charge of the National Secretariat of the Association and shall perform the following duties.

  • Take steps to convene general meetings of the Association, meetings of the National Executive Council and the NEXCO in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution.
  • Keep records and minutes of general meetings of the Association, meetings of the National Executive Council and the NEXCO including attendance thereat.
  • Write and dispatch circulars, letters, and other correspondences of the Association including that of the National Executive Council.
  • Maintain the Register of Members.
  • Present reports of the activities of the Association, its Chapters and Sets at the Annual General Meetings and at meetings of the National Executive Council and NEXCO meetings.
  • Be entitled to records and minutes of meetings of all committees of the Association.
  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the President, the National Executive Council or the Association.

PRE-REQUISITE: Nil

ASSISTANT GENERAL SECRETARY

The Assistant General Secretary shall:

  • Assist the General Secretary in the performance of his/her duties and shall in the absence of the General Secretary act in his/her place.
  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the President, the General Secretary, the National Executive Council or the Association.

PRE-REQUISITE: Nil

TREASURER

The duties of the Treasurer shall be as follows:

  • Receiving, collecting and paying into the Association’s bank account(s) all monies collected for the Association or paid to the Association from any source whatsoever.
  • Carrying out any decision or directive of an Annual General Meeting, the National Executive Council and the NEXCO in matters relating to the budget or finances of the Association.
  • Preparing or causing to be prepared in consultation with the President and other members of the NEXCO and submitting to the National Executive Council an annual budget containing the estimated revenue and expenditure of the Association for the period of 1st October to 30th September of every year.
  • Investing the monies of the Association in such securities and manners as may be approved by the National Executive Council.
  • Performing all other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the President or the National Executive Council or the Association.

PRE-REQUISITE: Nil

FINANCIAL SECRETARY
The duties of the Financial Secretary shall be as follows:
  • Give a receipt for all monies received for the Association, remit at once to the Treasurer or deposit immediately in the Association’s bank account and provide the Treasurer with a copy of the deposit slip.
  • Keep an accurate record of all receipts and payment authorizations for the Treasurer’s financial records.
  • Prepare all payment authorizations as approved by the NEXCO, if required by the bylaws.
  • Prepare and present a Financial Secretary’s Report at NEXCO meetings. The report must include an accurate record of all receipts, deposits and authorizations for payment.
  • Report all funds deposited to the Treasurer. These totals shall be included in the Annual Financial Report to the Association.
  • Be in constant touch with the Sets and the Chapters for the purpose of soliciting and collecting annual dues, subscription and levies, as and at when due.
  • Circulating to every member of the National Executive Council the audited accounts and balance sheet for the preceding year.
  • Presenting at an Annual General Meeting of the Association the Audited financial statements of the Association for the preceding year.
  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the President or the National Executive Council or members at a general meeting.

PRE-REQUISITE: The candidate shall be a practising Accountant

ASSISTANT FINANCIAL SECRETARY

The Assistant Financial Secretary shall:

  • Assist the Financial Secretary in the performance of his/her duties and shall in the absence of the Financial Secretary act in his/her place.
  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the President or the National Executive Council or members at a general meeting.

PRE-REQUISITE: Nil

PUBLICITY SECRETARY

The duties of the Publicity Secretary shall be as follows:

  • Ensuring adequate and prompt publicity of the activities of the Association.
  • Presenting a good and progressive image of the Association to the Public.
  • Issuing releases and statements on matters of general interest to the Association and the public after consultation with the President or the National Executive Council.
  • Performing all other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the President or the National Executive Council or members at a general meeting.

PRE-REQUISITE: Nil

ASSISTANT PUBLICITY SECRETARY

The duties of the Assistant Publicity Secretary are as follows:

  • Assisting the Publicity Secretary in the performance of his/her duties and shall in the absence of the Publicity Secretary act in his/her absence.
  • Performing all other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the President or the National Executive Council or the members at a general meeting.

PRE-REQUISITE: Nil

LEGAL ADVISER

The duties of the Legal Adviser shall be as follows:

  • Advising the Association, its officers, committees, organs or agents on legal issues affecting the Association or arising in the performance of their duties.
  • Representing and/or protecting or arranging for the representation and/or protection of the interests of the Association in Courts, Tribunals, Judicial Inquiries or proceedings, subject however to the National Executive Council right to engage any other Counsel of its choice as the need arises from time to time.
  • Performing all other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the President or the National Executive Council or the members at a general meeting.

PRE-REQUISITE: The candidate shall be a Legal Practitioner of not less than five (5) years post call experience

RISK AND COMPLIANCE OFFICER

The duties of the Risk and Compliance Officer shall be as follows:

  • Advising the NEXCO on systems of internal controls required to safeguard assets of the Association, ensure accurate and reliable financial reporting, promote compliance with laws and regulations and achieve effective and efficient operations.
  • Performing all other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the President or the National Executive Council or the members at a general meeting.

PRE-REQUISITE: The candidate shall be a person of cognate qualifications and experience like Internal Controllers and Risk Managers

WELFARE SECRETARY

The duties of the Welfare Secretary shall be as follows:

  • Monitor the welfare and interest of members of the Association. In this regard, the Welfare Secretary shall liaise with persons in the executive committees of Chapters and Sets to ensure the establishment and operation of an effective system for monitoring the welfare of members of the Association.
  • Bring to the attention of NEXCO and the National Executive Council any matter concerning the welfare of any member of the Association with a view to protecting and preserving their rights, privileges and welfare.
  • Be responsible for coordinating and managing programmes and initiatives within the Association for the welfare of members of the Association.
  • Be responsible for supervising the insurance and other welfare programs of the Association.
  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the President or the National Executive Council or the members at a general meeting.

ASSISTANT WELFARE SECRETARY
The Assistant Welfare Secretary shall:
  • Assist the Welfare Secretary in the performance of his/her duties and shall act in the absence of the Welfare Secretary in his/her place.
  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the President or the National Executive Council or members at a general meeting.
